Freddie, the smart and friendly Whoodle
And his friend Bennie the Cavoodle
Heard from the grandparents of a new arrival
And they say she is an eyeful.
Freddie and Bennie are friends
Of the grandparents that live on the street
Who give them odds and ends
And usually a treat to eat
The grandparents, all excited,
Say there is a new little Cousin to meet.
The Doodles are delighted
The Grandparents say she is sweet.
The Doodles ramble across the way
To tell the Neighbor Lady, Kitty Knight, the news
That a new little one will be coming to play.
The Doodles tell Kitty that Ava was on a boat
Afloat when she heard the news
Out on Buzzards Bay off the Cape
Cousin Number One said Welcome Number Eight
Bennie tells Kitty Knight that Kira, Cousin Number 2,
Is resting in the pillows
Smiling and dreaming – WAHOO!
Happy her baby sister, Astrid, is dreaming of unicorns and bows!
Cousin Number 3, Juliette, is doing a pirouette
Hearing her sister, Kira, doing the WAHOO
She knows that she and Kira are no longer two
And tells her mother that she is happy too.
Anastasia draws pictures with flowers and stars
She is Cousin Number 4 and likes to draw
And soar on her swing with her feet in the sky
Hoping Astrid and her sisters will be coming by.
Lila May is Cousin Number 5, Freddie and Bennie say
She has long, wavy hair that shines in the sun
“I have something to tell you”, she is saying today.
“My sister Ava and I have a new Cousin.”
“Who is Cousin Number 6?” asks Kitty Knight
“Corrina Lyn”, whoofs Bennie. ”A duckling
With white blond hair. She is full of delight
That Cousin Astrid Maeve is such a pretty sight.
Bert climbing, jumping and trying to get away
Is Cousin Number 7 who is too young to say
That he has a new Cousin who someday
Like his sisters, Anastasia and Corrina, will like to play.
The grandparents who live on the street
Count their grandchildren
The cousins Astrid will get to meet.
Seven granddaughters and one grandson, on the wall their names are hung.
Ava and Kira, One and Two, the counting has begun
Three and Four, Juliette and Anastasia are two more.
Five and Six, Lila and Corrina are added to the mix.
Bert and Astrid future playmates Seven and Eight.
Freddie and Bennie and the Grandparents say
Now Cousin Number 8 is here to stay
Astrid Maeve was born in May
Divine beauty, honey wine, meadows they say
Astrid was born during the 2020 pandemic emergency
So, the Cousins could not be there to see
Kira and Juliette welcome Astrid Maeve home cheerfully.
The Doodles, Freddie and Bennie, who like to play
Stayed at the Grandparents house today
They did not escape outside to wander away
They were on the ZOOM call to see the new baby.
The Aunts and Uncles and Parents of the Baby
The Grandparents, Cousins and Freddie and Bennie.
Were all in their houses far away
Around their computer screens to see the family’s new baby.
The Zoom video came on and all could see
Little Astrid Maeve a swaddled baby.
The Doodles thought how much fun it will be
When the eight Cousins can be together to play.
Freddie and Bennie, the Doodles that love to play
Stay on the front lawn of the grandparents house today
Telling the neighbors that Cousin Number 8 born on a Saturday in May
Will be visiting soon so watch for their car in the driveway.
