This is a story for our children, their children, and all children everywhere

From the Children’s Holiday Story collection, a series in the Children’s Picture Book Adventures.

A funny, little, gray kitty
Wanders about
Not knowing where to go.

He prowls from place to place
Looking for somewhere
Warm to be safe.

The funny, little kitty sleeps with a smile
In Grandma and Grandpa’s garden
Under the tulips for a while.

The kitty sprawls on the grass
As Grandma walks past
Hoping that his head will be rubbed.

Peppy the scary, spotted cat
Smells the gray kitty
And tells him to scat!
And, not to come back.

The funny little, gray kitty
Runs and runs

He hides in other gardens
Under the flowers
Fearful of the spotted cat.

The weather turns cold
The gray kitty knows
He needs a warm shelter
Away from where the cold wind blows.

But, where to go?
And what to do?
The little, gray kitty
Does not know.

GrandMa and GrandPa are worried.
The funny, little, gray kitty
Has not been around.

Snow will soon fall.
The skies are gray.
The sun is hidden away.

Grandma and Grandpa search
One backyard after another.
They walk in the chill with a shudder.

They call out loud, in a snowy backyard
Where is that kitty?

The funny, little, cold, gray kitty
Creeps out to GrandMa.

GrandMa scoops up the kitty
Tucks him in her coat
Turns toward home with GrandPa
Leading the way.

Out of the cold
In front of a warm fireplace
GrandPa asks GrandMa
Where the funny little kitty will stay.

You sneeze and I wheeze
When kitties are in the house.
We cannot keep the funny, little kitty
In our snowy back yard, GrandPa wheezes.

The next day with a chill in the air
The Grandparents in their despair
Take the kitty to their children’s houses.

In Washington DC
Molly says Kira and Juliette would love the kitty
He could prowl around our one-hundred-year old house
But, we are all allergic you see.

In Connecticut by the beach
The Grandparent’s daughter Emily
Says “Yes” we will keep the funny kitty
After we move to our new house.

Oh! What now? The grandparents say.
Where can the kitty stay for a while?

Through the Massachusetts woods
Grandma and Grandpa drive
Their son Bill says Ava and Lila would
Love the kitty to stay – but the bears
In the woods will scare the kitty away.

Across the bridge to Queens
Grandma and Grandpa drive.
Isabel is waiting for them to arrive.

Yes, Isabel says with a sneeze.
The little, gray kitty can stay for awhile.
There are no bears and he will not freeze.

On Christmas Day at Emily’s new house
With cousins all around
Isabel arrives with Emily’s present in tow
A funny, little, warm, gray kitty with a red bow.

Merry Christmas to you Isabel says
And many years of a house without a mouse, or a bear.
But maybe a sneeze or two there.
The End
