The Special Day: Children’s Picture Book Adventures

A Children’s Picture Book Adventures story in the Adventures of Freddie and Bennie collection.

The grandchildren, who are the Cousins, live near and far

From GrandMa and GrandPa who some call Popa and Mema.

The two Doodles, Freddie and Bennie, call the pair

The grandparents who live in the neighborhood.

The Cousins hear exciting news

From the two Doodles who loudly bark away

That Mema will soon have a big day.

“The plans are a secret,” the two Doodles WHOOF.

“But we can tell you this.

It is a special birthday you will not want to miss.”

“Well FIDDLESTICKS to secret!” the Cousins shout.

“We will make the plans without a doubt for Grandma’s special day out.”

The real planning begins as the Cousins decide to draw

Bright and colorful pictures with a mixture of fun and awe.

“She can go to the spa,” Freddie and Bennie bark. “So she can relax on her special day.”

“Oh no,” the Cousins laugh. “Mema would be sad and worry all the way.”

“Well then,” the Doodles whoof. “A relaxing pedicure to make her smile.”

“Oh boy,” the Cousins laugh. “That idea is off by a mile.”

“Ok, Ok…” the Doodles pant.

“A day on the boat will be a treat.”

“Hot sun and rolling waves,” the Cousins wink.

“Mema will be afraid the boat will sink.”

“So what then should we do?”

Freddie and Bennie ask.  “Take her to the zoo?”

The Cousins smile again, “Well, no zoo.

We know what to do for Mema’s special day.”

Ava told the Doodles,

“The start will be breakfast in bed.

No fruit and berrys,

Orange juice and eggs instead.”

“Then we will move on

To birthday presents and cards

Made by each of the Cousins.”

Kira oooed,  “With ribbon by the yards.”

Juliette with a suspicious little smile

Said, “then we will dress Grandma

With a cashmere sweater in grand style.”

“Then a drive up the coast,”

Anastasia said the treat should be.

“With a stop at a special beach restaurant

For the best lobster roll from the sea.”

After the delicious lobster roll, the ride continues north through Boston.

As Lila takes Grandma to a hotel on the sea in Gloucester. Where the sight of crashing waves is awesome.

Corrina says there is music where they will stay at the Gloucester hotel. So Mema can dance the night away.

“Better than all of that,” said Bert as he took a hop. “On the drive back from Gloucester we will have Mema stop at a special shop to browse for birthdays coming up.

“Well maybe”, Astrid suggests. “A different place with lots of fun stores. Where Grandma can browse at her pace. And Grandpa can watch her buy presents by the scores.”
